Mew Lake in Early Winter
This image of Mew Lake in Algonquin was captured in early November one year. Algonquin can be bleak between seasons. I waited several days for some light. It had been raining for several days and then the temperature dropped just enough to turn the rain to light snow. The snow coating the trees looked wonderful but still there was no light. I was driving along Highway 60 in the late afternoon when the sun finally came out. It was calm and the reflection would have been absolutely perfect if it wasn't for a family of river otters swimming at the far end of the lake. The light lasted only 15 minutes. But that was enough.
