Bighorn Sheep Rams

Regal, that's how I think these Bighorn Sheep rams look. There is something about the way they hold their heads. Maybe their horns remind me of a Pharaoh's crown.

Ron took this picture at Disaster Point in Jasper National Park in Alberta. At this spot there is a salt lick that is so popular with Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goats that the park has provided a paved parking space so that wildlife watchers can pull right off the highway. We often see female sheep and lambs standing right on the road in that area. On this day we lucked out and for our first time found rams. Ron was photographing them grazing at the side of the road when a big truck passed and popped the air brakes. All but one of the startled sheep ran up into the hills and then stood there looking around for their buddy causing me to dub this picture "Where's George?" To me the Bighorns even seemed concerned that George and the truck were involved in some sort of disaster. Only the ram in the right of the image can see the sheepish looking George slowly walking up the hill to join them. Once he did they all wandered out of our sight.
